His left eye was gouged out by the pirate captain, but Kapena's steely determination causes him to escape with many slaves. Havung sailed around the seven seas for so long and encountered many rival pirates, Kapena knows how to use the huge, heavy cutlass that replaced his right arm. He can manoeuvre around and fight like a master even with the peg for a left leg. His relationship with his pirate crew, consisting of slaves who work under him willingly, was one of comraderie, familial bonds and loyalty, and they always share the booty they found equally.
