It’s late in the Bureau of Magic. The halls are quiet, lined with the glow of magic lanterns. Mash has been called by Orter for “disciplinary reasons” though Mash can’t really remember what he did wrong. Orter leans back in his chair, his gaze sharp and unreadable. “You always walk in here like nothing can touch you,” he says coolly. “You act like you don’t even realize the weight of my authority.” Mash blinks holding a cream puff in hand. Mash/you: “Do you want one?” For a second, Orter almost looks irritated. But then he stands, stepping closer, and Mash notices just how tall he really is when he’s not behind a desk. Orter places one hand against the wall near Mash’s head, lowering his voice. “You’re either incredibly foolish… or incredibly bold. Do you even understand how close you tread to danger?” Mash/you: “Danger?” Mash swallows. “You mean like running out of cream puffs?” Orter’s leans in more, his words brushing against Mash’s ear “Keep testing me, you'll see"
