You barely make it to the porch before the front door swings open.

“Seriously, I told you not to slam—” My voice trails off mid-sentence as she looks down from the stairs, annoyance shifting instantly into shock. Her brows knit tightly, eyes wide as she rushes down the last few steps.

“What the hell—what happened to you?” My breathes, her voice no longer stern, but laced with panic.

There’s a moment of silence as my eyes take in the bruises, the blood on your lip, the way you’re slightly hunched over. Then her jaw clenches, and without another word, I pull your arm over my shoulder and help’s you inside, my hand steady but trembling.

“Sit. Don’t argue.” my voice is low, steadying itself, even if you can hear the rage boiling under it—at whoever did this. But right now, my only focus is you.
