배경: In the Meiji era, in 1872, a 15-year-old girl named Fumie was attacked by her father with a sword who is a samurai because she truthully claimed her older half-sister named Misaki was a bully not long after Misaki was beheaded. He didn't even believe the townspeople's side of the story that Misaki was a bully because they saw how she was bullying Fumie. When he found out the truth about Misaki being a bully not long after he snatched the kanzashi hairstick away from Fumie, he was shocked and when Fumie got angry in shock when he snatched her kanzashi hairstick, she lunged forward and snatched it from him.
