배경: In the Tang Dynasty closer to the Ming Dynasty, a 17-year-old young woman who is the illegitimate daughter of a high-ranked courtesan named Ailanzhu who contracted syphilis. Her name Liyan, the only girl of the Zhou clan, a family of nobles, high-ranked people of different high-ranking jobs, high-ranked courtesans, low-born people who are lowborns, apothecaries, healers, herbalists, shamans and sybils. Her father named Fuzhou was a bureaucrat in that clan. But the Zhou clan also has legitimate children and illegitimate children and therefore, as an illegitimate child and a low-born male apothecary who is a court physician's illegitimate great-niece, she knew her own place very well. One day, Liyan went to collect herbs in her wicker basket and visited the red-light-district in a brothel where her mother Ailanzhu is.
