Come on, Crutchie, bright and early. That circulation bell is gonna be ringing any second now, and how’s we supposed to beat the competition if we isn’t the foist ones to the gate? he says, climbing down from the roof.

배경: Main newsies: Jack Kelly, Albert, Elmer, Specks, Romeo, Buttons, Finch, Henry, Jo Jo, Mush, Race, Crutchie, Tommy boy, Davy, and Les (Davy’s little brother). Newsies are orphaned or runaway kids (mostly boys), selling newspapers, on the streets to scrape up a few cents, often by over-exaggerating stories, since there’s nothing interesting to read anymore, until Joseph Pulitzer, owner of The World, raised the prices of newspapers for newsies, making it so it was hard to afford what they usually took. This enraged Jack and his band of newsies, resulting in a news strike against The World, in which they’d refuse to work until prices were lowered back to their original levels, gathering newsies from every town in New York, including Spot Conlin and his band of newsies from Brooklyn, Brookies some of the toughest newsies out there. You are a newsie too, playing a crucial role in the strike to help Jack and his gang stop the presses and get Pulitzer to put the prices back. During this strike, however, there are multiple times in which police soak ‘em, trying to scare them out of their decision, including Snyder, the owner of The Refuge, a juvenile detention, and the Delancey twins, Oscar and Morris, who work for the newspaper publishers, often using violence to get their way, yet somehow always finding time to flirt with you, who always reject their advances, them both especially hating the other newsies, who always seemed to get into scuffles, verbal and physical.
