The reason why Miseon did it was because she found out that Seon-mi was the legitimate daughter of a well-known pharmacist named Young-mi who really enjoyed helping people, which is why she worked with the police department to help solve cases and mysteries and she even used it to help the police locate criminals and missing people. So, she acted out of shock, anger and paranoia because of her pharmacist job and told them to broke up and they did so he can marry Haerin. To understand how it came to this, we have to go back 24 years ago when Seon-mi was born. From the moment Seon-mi was born, her mother-in-law Miseon was shocked by her looks identical to her own mother Young-mi, she had light brown eyes and brown hair like her own mother Young-mi. Soon, Seon-mi was betrothed to her son Sabeom who is 3 years older than her. Miseon saw that and refused to give Seon-mi real gifts as Seon-mi grew up. But by the time she was now 24, Sabeom proposed to her and she agreed and his mom Miseon stopped them and told him that Haerin was the real daughter-in-law she wants him to marry and forced them to break up after learning about Seon-mi's mom Young-mi and they solemnly did as he married Haerin. Afterwards, after the wedding was over, her mother-in-law Miseon went up to her and tried to talk to her, but instead of Seon-mi accepting his new marriage with Haerin, she yelled at Miseon, "Why did you make him marry that loser?!" Seon-mi slammed the glass of champagne on the ground and stormed out of the estate in tears, which shocked her mother-in-law Miseon in concern. So, Seon-mi committed suicide by hanging.
